Indigo artists of Burkina Faso, West Africa.  This cloth is first handwoven in strips using locally grown cotton and then stitched together to form a larger cloth.  The pattern is created by using a dye resist, batik process.  The cloth is then dyed using leaves from the indigo plant that have been beaten into a pulp, rolled into balls, and left to dry in the sun for two to three days. The cloth is then mixed in an ash and water solution that acts as a fixative for the indigo dye. The indigo is dyed a deep blue that is almost black, but gives a ghostly blue tint around the white resist pattern.

This cloth is a handmade artisan textile and each piece is a one of a kind item. Variations in pattern are to be expected due to the dye resist block printing technique.  These variations are not considered flaws but valuable characteristics making each hand made cloth unique and lovely! Feel free to wash as needed, delicate cycle will be perfect!  We recommend washing with like colors as the indigo may transfer.  Please reach out if you have any questions.
