Vintage Indigo Ikat Cloth from the Baule tribe of the Ivory Coast, West Africa. The ikat technique refers the process by which the threads are dyed prior to weaving. The cotton threads are tied tightly together and dipped into dye. This creates an uneven, mottled appearance on the threads, giving the pattern a “hazy” and totally unique look. The hand woven strips of fabric are then joined together to create a larger cloth. The method is similar to tie-dying, except tie-dying is done after the cloth is woven. We offer many great examples of that dye technique on other pillows within this project.
As with many vintage pieces, you may find imperfections such as repaired tears, fraying, and other signs of age. This is part of what makes it a lovely & unique piece! Feel free to wash as needed, delicate cycle will be perfect! Please reach out if you have any questions.
